By working together we are assured the best chance of successfully helping your addicted loved one. Some of the things that you can do to help the process are as follows:
Be prepared to provide credible evidence of the person’s addiction,
Be able to clearly identify all the things the addict has to lose,
Understand that surprise is essential to success and keep the process a secret,
Be willing to love your addict enough to stop enabling him/her. This means adopting the “I love you so much, I cannot continue to be around you and watch you destroy yourself” philosophy,
The calls we receive are usually desperate, typically right after a negative incident has just occurred. Be prepared to act quickly, as this “addict behavior” will be fresh in everyone’s mind and the intervention will be more effective,
Make decisions with us; emotions tend to run high and the changes you may want are best worked out together,
Learn to trust in our experience and be comfortable asking for help throughout this difficult process.
